Diddies BBQ

Despite having hosted the Diddies barbecue last year, the Tonge family had very kindly proposed to host this year edition.

On Sunday afternoon, around 50 parents and swimmers braved the rain to enjoy Richard and Sue's great hospitality and BBQ extravaganza at their fabulous Skeffington home. Thanks to two barbecues expertly manned by Elliot Brogan and Richard (who both must have undergone a training course in the skills of 'grilled but not burnt'), the guests had plenty to eat and drink, sheltered under the gazebos.

Even under constant drizzle, the pool was a firm favourite with the children. Chloe won the 'longest stint in the water' prize although Pierre-Yves gave her a good run for her money, and Theo, Harry, Candice and Sophie were not far behind. With lots of inflatables, water pistols and other toys, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and would have probably stayed until dark had parents not signified time to go home.

Taking advantage of a brief respite from the rain, the party ended with a game of rounders. Facing an opposition force of twice their number, the adults took on the children for two innings of mayhem and laughter. Mano Cheema bowled for the adults followed by his son, Sam, for the children. After a competitive first innings, scores were tight, and the amount of rounders posted by the children in the second innings looked ominous for the adults. However, the latter had one last card up their sleeves in the disguise of Sophie's dad, Claude, who managed to bat with sufficient force to send the ball into the next county, thereby guaranteeing victory for the adults. Sorry kids, better luck next time !

The club would like to thank Richard and Sue for sharing their home. The rain never dampened the spirits and all had a fabulous time.
